SOFTECH SLAYER SOFT TOP SURFBOARD, CLEAR SKY
INCLUDES FINS. EXCLUDES LEASH AND BOARD BAG.
We recommend surfboard wax with all surfboards, including soft tops. A soft deck is not a grippy deck once it is wet. Wax it lightly before each session.
You have got past the whitewash. You are catching unbroken waves, you are starting to trim, and the big learner board that got you here is now the thing holding you back.
The Softech Slayer is the board for that step.
5 REASONS WHY YOU NEED THIS BOARD
- 55 litres in a 7'0" is deliberately less float than a learner foamie at the same length, which is what gives you control instead of being pushed around by the board.
- Vee and double vee concave through the bottom lets you roll from rail to rail, so you can actually carve rather than just going straight.
- Nose rocker keeps you from pearling on the steeper drops you will be taking at this stage.
- Epoxy core, vacuum glassed with 6oz cloth and a thin HDPE slick, so it is noticeably faster and stiffer than a basic foamie.
- FCS II Softflex fins are included, and they swap without screws or tools as your surfing changes.
SIZES AND VOLUMES
- 7'0" x 22" x 3", 55 litres

HOW TO WORK OUT THE SIZE YOU NEED
Go on volume against body weight, not height. Volume is what catches waves.
At a small, sheltered beach in waves under about 80cm, the starting point for a beginner is around 1 litre of volume per kilo of body weight. Push that up to around 1.5 litres per kilo if you are a complete beginner, not especially sporty, or still working on paddle fitness.
We stock the 7'0" at 55 litres. At 1 litre per kilo that suits a rider around 55kg who already has the basics. Read that number carefully. Softech describe the Slayer as a higher volume option for heavier riders, and that is true relative to performance boards, but it is not a high volume learner board. A 90kg complete beginner needs something closer to 90 to 135 litres, which means a Coaster, not this. Talk to us before you buy if that sounds like you.
Treat that as a starting point. Fitness, coordination and how often you actually get in the water all change the answer, and so does where you surf. Wave size, shape and power make a real difference to the board someone needs, and a board that is perfect at a gutless summer beach break can be the wrong board somewhere with more push.
We are always happy to talk it through and confirm the size before you buy. Tell us your height, weight, how much surfing you have done and where you surf, and we will tell you which one we would put you on.
WHO IT'S BEST FOR
- Surfers who have learned the basics and want more control
- Riders stepping down from a big learner foamie
- Lighter intermediates who want a fast, forgiving soft top
- Anyone who wants a knockabout board that still performs

WHY STEP DOWN FROM A LEARNER BOARD
The board that teaches you to stand up is not the board that teaches you to surf. A big learner foamie has so much float that it goes where the wave puts it, and once you can catch waves on your own that stops being a help.
Dropping volume gives the board back to you. It sinks slightly, it holds a rail, and it turns when you ask. The trade is that you have to be able to catch waves without the extra float doing it for you.
ABOUT THE SLAYER SOFT TOP SURFBOARD
Softech describe the Slayer as a template for beginners who want more control, and as a higher volume option for heavier riders. The useful way to read that is relative: against a performance shortboard it is very forgiving, against a learner foamie it is a step down.
Construction is epoxy core with a single stringer, vacuum glassed with 6oz cloth, a high-density PE foam deck and an ultra-thin soft HDPE slick bottom, with vee and double vee concave through the bottom.
HOW IT COMPARES
Here is the clearest comparison we can give you. Our Coaster at 7'0" carries 70 litres. This Slayer at 7'0" carries 55 litres. Same length, fifteen litres apart.
That difference is the whole point. The Coaster catches waves for you. The Slayer lets you control the wave once you can catch it yourself. If you cannot yet reliably paddle into unbroken waves, buy the Coaster.
IMPORTANT NOTES
- This is not a first board. It will frustrate a complete beginner. We would rather sell you a Coaster now and a Slayer next year.
- We stock the 7'0" only. Softech also make it in 7'6" and 8'0". If you need more volume, ask and we will look at bringing one in.
- You will need a leash. There is a leash plug fitted but no leash included, and no board bag.
- Look after the skin. If the outer skin gets punctured, dry the board out and seal it with clear silicone before it goes back in the water.
